I’m leaving from NoVa for Terre Haute, IN. It’s a work trip, we test Monday thru Friday and then I head home next Saturday.
Any recommendations for stuff to socially distantly observe along the way?

I was gonna say Corvette Museum, but then I looked up the distance from Arlington* to Terre Haute, and it’s north of Kentucky.
Any car plants in Columbus?
*Just a random city in NoVa I thought of.

How’s the road clearance on your car? Most of my social distancing in central Indiana involves dirt roads.
You’ve missed peak season, but the Cataract waterfalls are worth a stop. Very close to I-70.

Will drum up some more ideas.

Huh, I lived in terre haute for two years getting my master’s. My wife (gf at the time) lived in Alexandria, and I drove to visit her every other month. It is a brutal drive. Once you hit Ohio it sucks. Straight, flat, and into the sun. I wish I could recommend something to see, but there just isn’t.
Corn and soy, you'll see lots of both. Go to white castle. They exist in the Five Boroughs, and Indiana for some reason.

Museum at Wright-patterson AFB, it's pretty close to I70 in Dayton, O.

I have family in IN. Newc astle, Terre Haute, Goshen, Evansville, and probably some others I’m forgetting. I’ve made the trip from MN too many times to count. when you’re on your 10th hour of driving and you’re in th e middle of cornsville nothingness, it can be pretty brutal.

I forgot that I made that trip in reverse just last summer; you can look through the posts here: https://oppositelock.kinja.com/two-years-of-oppo-a-retrospective-1844004918
If the photos at https://oppositelock.kinja.com/the-road-to-appalachia-1835974791 spark your interest, there’s an odd fellow who has a bunch of nostalgia in his garage. The sign over the door reads “National Automotive and Truck Museum” which is a bit ambitious. He’s located in Dublin, Indiana, right off highway 40 near Center Street.
I regret I didn’t make the time to see the New River Gorge Bridge; if you haven’t, you should. https://www.nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/nrgbridge.htm
Also regrettably this was closed the day I passed through Huntington because someone didn’t show up to work, but if you can: http://www.mrtwv.org There’s also a train museum nearby.
The Portsmouth Flood Wall is definitely worthwhile if you can make the time.

You know a place is bad when the food recommendation is to go to White C astle.

I drove from terre haute to Vail Colorado for a conference once. I-70 the whole way, across Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas. It doesn’t get any worse. And the numbers count down going westz so we’re counting down across Kansas just praying for Colorado, stupidly thinking we’d cross the border and POOF, mountains (even though we couldn’t see mountains yet). Oh, the let down. Like they said in Dumb and Dumber, John Denver was full of shit.

Hahaha, thats hilarious.
I finally made it to Terre Haute. Im staying in the Hampton Inn right off I-70. It seems okay, I guess. We are actually working down in Sullivan, so I'll get to see that tomorrow.

I would love to, but Ill be a bit limited in time. Also I’m trying to avoid enclosed places like that. I have a few important work trips in the next few months and really want to avoid the COVID as much as I can so I dont let the team down.
But one day I will come back and see it!

I don’t blame you. I’m not sure it’s even open really. But it’s an awesome spot to see if you do have the opportunity.

There is a dirt track nearby, maybe see if they got any action?

Good call. Last summer the test director and I were down at Camp Lejeune and went to a race down there. I’ll check the schedule and see if I can find something h ere.
